Kyoto, Copenhagen, climate change, global warming, greenhouse gases, emissions trading scheme, carbon tax, carbon capture and sequestration, carbon offset, sustainability, renewable energy sources, data centres.  Data centres?!  Hang on.  Back up.  How do data centres fit in that list?

Distributed computing is not new, but the internet and new business models are making it affordable for smaller organisations to leverage the power of these computing networks.
 

The practice of outsourcing call centres and other services to overseas locations has been around for many years and, from recent announcements, is still growing.  However, I’ve had two recent experiences with telcos which bring to the fore the lack of ‘localness’ with off-shoring.
