Benjamin Franklin once said, "The only things certain in life are death and taxes”.
Currently, the hot topic of discussion in Australia is the Australian carbon tax. The ramifications of this tax are not yet fully understood and the various political parties and independents who are negotiating the framework are themselves divided, so it is anybody’s guess as to the detail.

Many organisations are embracing cloud computing for good reasons; mobility, points of access… the list of benefits is long. However like any solution, it is important to make sure that it is the right solution for your particular organisation, more particularly when it comes to Privacy and the Law.

A friend asked me recently what I thought about SaaS in the enterprise.
He has a budding startup and is looking at different models to sell his project management software to enterprise customers. He wanted to know whether it would be better to offer an on-premise solution or whether enterprises are sufficiently mature to adopt software as a service.
What followed, over a lunch, was a brainstorming session on SaaS and what are some of the concerns with using SaaS in the enterprise.

On a recent trip to the USA, I took the opportunity to pick up an iPad—once we walked into the Apple store it was always going to be tough to leave without one (or at least order one!). I was curious to really understand what the fuss is about. Mr Jobs seemed to think it was another game changer from Apple, others say it’s just for consuming content, the media were split. So, I thought I would share my thoughts, not just on the device but on how it will change the way we work or, more likely, the way future generations will work.

Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the internet. These services are broadly divided into three categories: infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS). The name ‘cloud computing’ was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the internet in flowcharts and diagrams.
